Linked priorities strengthen our mission

When our board sat down last month to review and approve our proposed 2014 strategic plan, it also agreed upon an over-arching goal that represents a bold yet natural evolution made possible by the significant progress we have achieved this past year – to position WCHQ as both a measurement and an improvement organization. The member scorecard – a new era of performance improvement

WCHQ has been measuring and publicly reporting data on the quality of care being delivered by Wisconsin healthcare providers since 2004. The expansion of WCHQ’s membership base from 11 members to 32 and its measurement portfolio from six measures to 43 – along with other notable accomplishments like last January’s Consumer Reports article – strengthen WCHQ’s status as one of Wisconsin’s foremost performance measurement sources. The vision of WCHQ, though, is not just to measure performance; it is to improve the health of Wisconsin residents.

Choosing Wisely® – creating a new dialogue

In March 2013, WCHQ was one of 21 regional health collaboratives, state medical societies, or specialty societies to be awarded a two-year grant by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Foundation. The funding, originally from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, is designed to extend the reach of the ABIM Foundation’s Choosing Wisely® campaign, created to help physicians and patients engage in conversations aimed at reducing unnecessary tests, treatments and procedures. The Collaborative has begun an initiative to promote these conversations between patients and physicians to ensure that patients receive the right care at the right time.
