Charting a future course

The WCHQ board of director’s planning retreat held on June 21 was the first step in a process that will set a course for our work in 2014 and beyond. Some exciting opportunities were identified in a day-long planning session that featured enthusiastic participation and thoughtful discussion around three specific topics –measurement, performance improvement and consumer engagement.

Real progress being made in colorectal screening improvement among members

WCHQ members have been collecting and publicly reporting quality metrics since 2003, and as members have become more comfortable with public reporting over time, the next logical step was to begin working on collaborative ways to improve performance. In mid-2011 WCHQ members and staff began looking for measurement areas where members could work collaboratively on a performance improvement project. This effort was, in part, an outgrowth of the maturation of WCHQ itself. WCHQ members and staff identified colorectal cancer screening as an ideal measurement area for a WCHQ performance improvement project.

WCHQ celebrates a significant milestone – site level reporting

Eighteen months ago, the Board of Directors of WCHQ made a commitment to initiate site level reporting (also known as clinic level reporting) of members’ performance data. A time and resource intensive effort by WCHQ members and staff saw the fulfillment of that initial commitment this spring when WCHQ members began publicly reporting their performance on nine measures at the clinic level.

WCHQ welcomes Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare’s Dr. Rita Hanson to the board

In this edition of News & Views we feature Rita Hanson, M.D., from Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, who joined the WCHQ board of directors late last year. Dr. Hanson, a practicing, board certified internist, has been affiliated with the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare system since the early 1980s. During that time she served in numerous leadership roles including vice president of medical affairs, chairman of the department of internal medicine and chief medical information officer. Presently, Dr. Hanson serves as senior vice president/chief medical officer for the healthcare system.
