A deep sternal wound infection involves infection occurring within 30 days after the operative procedure involving deep soft tissues of the incision. A patient must also have one of the following conditions:

  1. A wound that is opened with excision of tissue (I&D)
  2. A positive culture
  3. An abscess or other infection and treatment with antibiotics
  4. Diagnosis of deep sternal wound infection by a surgeon or attending physician

All data is risk adjusted and presented as a ratio of observed over expected results. Results to the left of the vertical line are better than expected. Results to the right of the line are worse than expected.
