Pneumococcal disease is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States. Streptococcus pneumoniae accounts for 20% to 60% of all community-acquired bacterial pneumonias (CAP) in adults. The risks for complications, hospitalizations, and death from pneumococcus pneumonia are higher among persons aged >65 years. The pneumococcal vaccine protects against the Streptococcus pneumoniae.

This measure assesses the percentage of adults greater than or equal to 65 years who had a pneumococcal vaccination.
