Wisconsin Collaborative for Quality Healthcare

Using Our Reports

Using WCHQ's Performance & Progress Report is an easy step-by-step process designed to help you become better informed on healthcare providers in our state.

1. Choose a Criterion

Option 1: To view measures by Provider Type and Region, begin your search by choosing the Type of Provider (i.e., Physician Groups, Hospitals, Health Plans). Then, narrow your search by selecting one specific region (optional). Click NEXT to view results.

Option 2: To view measures based on Topic or Category, begin by choosing one of the listed Clinical Topics (i.e., Access, Heart Care, Patient Satisfaction, etc.) ... or ... choose one of the Institute of Medicine Categories listed (i.e., Timeliness, Efficiency, Patient-Centeredness, etc.). By clicking the link, you will advance to the next screen and STEP 2. There are two ways to get started:

2. Choose a Measure

The measures listed in the left-hand column will vary according to the criteria you selected in STEP 1. Click the link for the measure, then wait for the results to appear on screen. (Note: To learn more about which measure to choose, move your mouse over the red question mark.)

To further narrow the results of your selected measure, you can customize your search by filtering the selected measure by Clinical Topic, Institute of Medicine Category or Unit of Measure. Filtering the measures can simplify the report, making the data much more manageable and clear. (Note: Move your mouse over the red question mark next to Clinical Topic, Institute of Medicine Category or Unit of Measure for more information about each.)

3. View the Report

Reports are sorted alphabetically by provider name as the default. If you wish to sort by provider rank, click Sort By Rank. Each report features a list of providers in Physician Groups, Hospitals, Health Plans - according to the measure you chose in STEP 1 and 2 - in a bar chart. Some measures are displayed as percentages, some as time, etc. If you have not yet searched by region, you may do so now by selecting the region from the drop down menu and clicking REFRESH. This will filter the providers on your screen to only those in the region you selected (or will show all if you choose All Regions).

Some measures will have the WCHQ Average available. This is useful in understanding how your provider compares to the rest of the providers in WCHQ. Additionally, some measures will have data for the JCAHO-90th Percentile.* If a provider's data is above the 90th Percentile, that means they are doing better than 90% of all providers in the country. This is a goal for WCHQ providers. To the right of the graph is a summary of information about the measure you chose, including the reporting period, which tells you exactly when this data was collected. Some measures report data for a full year, some for a quarter and some show a rolling average of the past four quarters. Historical data is available for most providers and can be accessed by clicking the Historical Data link that corresponds to each provider.

The report shown is from WCHQ's 2003 Performance & Progress Report.

4. View Historical Data

Historical Data is depicted in a line chart that shows several reporting periods of data according to Unit of Measure and Provider Type to provide a view of performance and progress over time.
