Reducing the burden – protecting our value proposition

In some respects, it is a natural phenomenon that an activity that starts as an innovation becomes accepted and even commoditized to a degree. When our organization started nearly 10 years ago, there was little being done in either hospital or physician group measurement. That is not the case today, as we’ve been hearing with growing frequency the concern from our member organizations that there are too many demands for data – federal data submission requirements, accountable care organizations, health plans, purchasers – with no end in sight.

Advancing diabetes care – sharing challenges, finding solutions

Earlier this month WCHQ and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Health Innovation Program (HIP) hosted a diabetes learning event for its members and other stakeholders interested in improving diabetes outcomes. With funding from the Wisconsin Partnership Program, this learning event focused specifically on the importance of using data to help drive performance improvement for the diabetic population. One of the highlights of the diabetes learning event was the use of WCHQ reporting data in a presentation by Dr. Maureen Smith on the challenge of improving care for persons with diabetes who have additional chronic conditions. Using data provided by several WCHQ member organizations, Smith identified the most common co-morbidities found in their diabetic populations.

A periodic feature introducing new WCHQ board members

In this edition of News & Views we feature a recent addition to the WCHQ board of directors – Patrick D. Falvey, Ph.D., from Aurora Health Care. A member of the WCHQ board since January of this year, Patrick has held numerous positions with Aurora, dating back to 1992, including leadership roles in the areas of productivity, quality, care management, strategy and research. Presently, Patrick serves as executive vice president/chief integration officer for the health care system.

Meet Theresa Mees, RN, BSN, MS, WCHQ’s newest staff member. Theresa, who began her tenure with WCHQ on August 20, brings an impressive background and executive level experience in performance measurement and quality improvement to her new role as director of quality. She recently spent time discussing her background and experience, how she views her new role and how she feels she can serve both WCHQ members and their patients.
