Understanding Health Disparities

By definition, a disparity is a difference or lack of equity in a way that is not fair. Maintaining disparities maintains inequality. In the context of healthcare, disparities can be found in differences in patient outcomes based upon population groups (i.e.: race and ethnicity, geography, income level, insurance coverage level, and/or access to care and other social factors). Our goal in this section is to offer a knowledge base to begin the process of identifying and improving health disparities.
